Figure 7-15. The Filters category allows you to restrict the list of results, while Sort criteria sorts the list. When you add filters or sort criteria, you have the opportunity to expose each field, as discussed earlier in the chapter. This allows users to manually sort and filter the list of results. When a field is exposed, the word Exposed is displayed to the right of the field title. Arguments allow you to filter a view based on a value in the URL path, such as a number, a word, or a date, that is related to the node. For example, you may want a view that displays all nodes of a certain taxonomy term, which frequently happens when you re creating a blog or a catalog. Using Pathauto, you would first create a URL pattern so that a node s primary taxonomy term is the last word in the URL. Then you would add an argument so that the view uses the URL path to get the term name, which it uses as a filter. See Appendix B for examples of how to use arguments. Relationships allow you to connect a node with a secondary node (or user) so that only secondary nodes or users that are related to the starting node are queried; these fields are then available in the Fields category to insert into your view (covered in the previous section). For example, you may want to relate a node to the person who created it so that you can then pull information related to that specific user, such as their signature. This is usually used in tandem with the node_reference module or user_reference module, both of which are located in the cck module (http://drupal.org/project/cck).

3.3.2 The BidderAccountCreatorBean example The process to create an ActionBazaar bidder account is too involved to be implemented as a single-step action. As a result, account creation is implemented as a multistep process. At each step of the workflow, the would-be bidder enters digestible units of data. For example, the bidder may enter username/password information first; then biographical information such as name, address, and contact information; then billing information such as credit card and bank account data; and so forth. At the end of a workflow, the bidder account is created or the entire task is abandoned. This workflow is depicted in figure 3.7.

Each step of the workflow is implemented as a method of the BidderAccountCreatorBean presented in listing 3.2. Data gathered in each step is incrementally cached into the stateful session bean as instance variable values. Calling either the cancelAccountCreation or createAccount method ends the workflow. The createAccount method creates the bidder account in the database and is supposed to be the last normal step of the workflow. The cancelAccountCreation method, on the other hand, prematurely terminates the process when called by the client at any point in the workflow and nothing is saved into the database. Click the Preview button at the bottom of the screen to preview the view. If you have an argument in the view, such as a term, enter it in the Arguments field. Once you are satisfied with the view, click the Save button. When creating a view, don t forget to click the Save button; otherwise, you will lose all your work. It s easy to forget. Once you hit Save, the views module will check your view and let you know whether anything is missing, such as a path for a page or feed display. You can successfully save after you fix all the error messages.
